The Warm Glow of Feeling Secure

Mike Hines, CFP®

A recent study by a major US financial institution found that Americans generally feel confident in various areas of their lives, with one notable exception…their finances. In fact, financial uncertainty, particularly in areas like building net worth and retiring comfortably, keeps 36% of those polled awake at least once a month.

However, the study also revealed some encouraging news. Individuals working with a financial advisor and practicing disciplined planning tend to feel stronger and more positive about various aspects of their lives, both personally and professionally. Collaborating with an advisor to improve their financial situation and achieve specific goals has led to reduced stress – and better sleep.

You might compare the comfort provided by a financial advisor to the sensation of drinking a warm cup of cocoa in front of a fireplace on a chilly January day. Interestingly, this comforting cup of cocoa has more healing and soothing properties than many realize. The active compounds and nutrients in the drink stimulate the brain to release hormones that enhance our mood.

Similarly, there are essential ingredients in the financial planning process including discipline, in-depth analysis, comprehensive research, and the use of the latest technology. There is a lot happening behind the scenes. Just as a cup of cocoa contains ingredients we might not consider, effective financial planning incorporates a unique mix of elements to help people stay on track, feel secure, and, ultimately, comforted.

Here’s wishing you and your family a healthy, successful, and comfortable 2024.
