Last month, I was asked to speak at a professional development conference in Orlando. The featured speaker was Coach Mike Krzyzewski, the legendary basketball coach who led Duke to five NCAA championships and Team USA to three Olympic gold medals. Coach K knows a great deal about building championship teams, and his leadership philosophy deeply resonates with us at CPC.
Here are four leadership insights he strongly believes in:
- Get everyone to buy in: Winning teams share a sense of ownership. It is not enough to be a superstar on the roster. Everyone must be emotionally invested in the same goal. For us, that goal is helping our clients make the most of their wealth, their lives, and their legacy.
- Tailor coaching to the individual: Coach K emphasized that no two players are the same, and effective leadership requires understanding each person’s unique makeup. At CPC, we believe the same is true in wealth management. Your goals, circumstances, and values are different. That is why we craft personalized wealth plans designed to reflect each client’s individual needs and ambitions.
- Listen first, then respond: Good coaching is not about lecturing. It is about listening. This principle has shaped how we work with clients. Listening allows us to understand objectives, create meaningful solutions, and most importantly build trust in our partnerships.
- Adapt without losing your foundation: Coach K spoke about the importance of evolving with the game while staying true to your core values. In our industry, markets shift, technology advances, tax laws evolve and new investment solutions emerge. I am proud of how our team stays ahead of these changes while remaining grounded in the principles that define us. As I mentioned in my last letter, our approach is rooted in discipline, long-term thinking, and a deep sense of responsibility to those we serve.

As I write this letter, the world is grappling with war and heightened tensions in the Middle East. Like you, I hope for peace and for the safety of those affected. From a market perspective, these events have contributed to increased volatility, and we expect this uncertainty to continue in the near term.
Please know that our exceptional CPC team, guided by many of the values shared above, is closely monitoring these developments and making prudent, forward-looking decisions to help guide your portfolio through uncertain times. If you have any questions or would like to talk through how current events may affect your financial plan, we welcome your call.
With gratitude,
