CPC Team Updates - December 2017

News about the team both behind and beyond the desk

Season's Greetings from One Generation to the Next

The other day, I was talking to one of my grandchildren when this happened: he started rattling off all of the American presidents, in order, from 1789 to the present. I was astounded at this. Not because I was reminded that Millard Fillmore was our 13th president and served from 1850 to 1853 – but because here was a member of Generation Z, my own family, showing off what I had forgotten for many years.

It struck me how family, and the generations of family we all share are a special gift. They bring us joy and surprises every day. They also sometimes bring us challenges and disappointments – yet always optimism and hope for a better generation to succeed us.  Here at CPC, we take pride in preserving wealth for generations. We even have a client who has been with us for 42 years and we are honored to serve three generations of his family. I am also fortunate to work with various generations right here in the office: Millennials, Generation Y, Generation X, Baby Boomers and even the Greatest Generation.

I am thankful to be a part of so many generations and I hope you are too. It’s amazing what you can learn every day. For example, did you know that Benjamin Harrison was our 23rd president?

From  everyone here at CPC Advisors, happy holidays to you and yours. May you generate many lasting memories during the festive season.

Sincerely,

Mike Hines, CFP®

Adele Gipson Featured in Financial Planning Magazine

We’re pleased to share that our Financial Advisor, Adele Gipson, CFA®, CFP®, CPA was featured in Financial Planning Magazine’s article, “Breaking down the industry’s most stubborn barrier”. This article highlighted a growing effort among some advisors to change the lack of diversity in the wealth management industry. As the article describes it, “Advisors have been rolling up their sleeves to mentor minority newcomers for planning careers and giving them the necessary tools to establish themselves.”

In this article, Adele shared her professional journey towards becoming a distinguished Financial Advisor. She attributes her success to technical skills attained through prior professional experience and CFA®, CFP®, CPA coursework. Additionally, Adele emphasized the importance of having a strong supporting team and a mentor (Mike Hines in her case).

It is exciting to see Adele showcased as one of these mentoring advisors. She has long advocated for diversity in the financial industry, most notably by serving on the board for Women’s Advisory Council and Black Financial Advisor Network.

In the Spotlight: Sheila Hines

Sheila Hines, RP has been with CPC for 19 years. As Manager of Client Services, she oversees our Client Associates and assists clients with transferring funds, opening accounts and scheduling. She is also an integral part of our firm’s technology and marketing initiatives.

1. *SHOOK considered advisors born in 1980 or later with a minimum 4 years relevant experience. 2,356 Millennial advisors were considered based on high thresholds from which 500 were chosen. Advisors have: built their own practices and lead their teams; joined teams and are viewed as future leadership; or a combination of both. Ranking algorithm is based on qualitative measures: telephone and in-person interviews, client retention, industry experience, credentials, review on compliance records, firm nominations; and quantitative criteria, such as: assets under management and revenue generated for their firms. Investment performance is not a criteria because client objectives and risk tolerances vary, and advisors rarely have audited performance reports. Rankings are based on the opinions of SHOOK Research, LLC, which does not receive compensation from the advisors or their firms in exchange for placement on a ranking. Winner’s Circle, a Barron’s research organization, produced the rankings based on data provided by over 4,000 individual advisors and their firms. Advisor data is confirmed via regulatory databases, cross-checks with securities firms and conversations with individual advisors. Among the factors considered for the rankings are assets under management, revenue that the advisors generate for their firms and the quality of their practices. Data points that relate to quality of practice include length of service, designations held, services beyond investments offered including estates and trusts, and an evaluation of each advisor’s regulatory record etc. Investment performance is not an explicit component because not all advisors have audited results and because performance figures often are influenced more by clients’ risk tolerance than by an advisor’s investment picking abilities. The ranking may not be representative of any one client’s experience, is not an endorsement, and is not indicative of future performance. Neither Raymond James nor any of its Financial Advisors pay a fee in exchange for this award/rating. Barron’s is not affiliated with Raymond James.  The FT 400 was developed in collaboration with Ignites Research, a subsidiary of the FT that provides specialized content on asset management. To qualify for the list, advisers had to have 10 years of experience and at least $300 million in assets under management (AUM). The FT then invited a list of just under 1,000 advisors to complete a survey used to obtain more information on the advisors practices. 400 qualified advisers were then scored on six attributes: AUM, AUM growth rate, compliance record, experience, industry certifications and online accessibility. AUM is the top factor, accounting for roughly 60-70 percent of the applicant’s score. Additionally, to provide a diversity of advisors, the FT placed a cap on the number of advisors from any one state that’s roughly correlated to the distribution of millionaires across the U.S. The ranking may not be representative of any one client’s experience, is not an endorsement, and is not indicative of future performance. Neither Raymond James nor any of its Financial Advisors pay a fee in exchange for this award/rating. The FT is not affiliated with Raymond James.   The Forbes ranking of America's Top Wealth Advisors, developed by SHOOK Research, is based on an algorithm of qualitative and quantitative data, rating thousands of wealth advisors with a minimum of seven years of experience. Ranking algorithm is based on quality of practice, including: telephone and in-person interviews, client retention, industry experience, review of compliance records, firm nominations; and quantitative criteria, including: assets under management and revenue generated for their firms. Investment performance is not a criteria because client objectives and risk tolerances vary, and advisors rarely have audited performance reports. Rankings are based on the opinions of SHOOK Research, LLC which does not receive compensation from the advisors or their firms in exchange for placement on the ranking.  Final list of the top 200 (2016) or 250 (2018) Advisors  was then compiled based upon the quantitative criteria.  Raymond James is not affiliated with Forbes or Shook Research, LLC.  This ranking is not indicative of advisor's future performance, is not an endorsement, and may not be representative of individual clients' experience. Neither Raymond James nor any of its Financial Advisors or RIA firms pay a fee in exchange for this award/rating.
